You’re right, Nick.

Where emeritus denotes a lifetime status, “Ex-“ is a prefix reflecting a 
status of, in layman’s terms, “used to be”, like in the term 
“ex-electrician” or “ex-licensed ex-electrician” .

This brings up a fascinating question:  What would be the correct title for 
an unemployed ex-electrician that used to be licensed?  Would he be a 
"formerly employed ex-licensed ex-electrician", an "unemployed, formerly 
licensed ex-electrician", "formerly employed, ex-licensed past-electrician, 
or simply a . . .
