Hansen,
The most important goal for the police department is protection of the people, not retention of officers.
This is a small town, about 10-12,000 permanent residents. Police officers probably are on a first name bases with most of the city council members, this is certainly better representation then what most officers have in big union cities.
I didn't vote for Nancy Chaney this time around. But I sure know that she cares deeply for this town and the people in it, including the police force. This mayor has only been in office for a few months, I think we all at least owe her the chance to work with the police in handling their problems that you claim will force the "Moscow Police Department to become a way station for the highly qualified and a dump station for the unqualified."

To develop retention, wages/salaries must be kept at a competitive level, grievances of employees must be heard and considered, and rights of employees must be secured.
Until last January these issues, as they relate to our police department, received nothing more than lip service from our city council; lip service loaded with empty promises
For quite a while our local police department has been suffering severe turnover problems as a result of these empty promises.
Moscow, my adopted home town, deserves better.
Don’t allow the Moscow Police Department to become a way station for the highly qualified and a dump station for the unqualified.
Allow our local police department to organize.
Seeya round town, Moscow.

Do you think that there is any organization that can not be improved?

Wayne,
If you didn't want public comment on why you think we need better MPD officers and we would get it through the officers paying a union, why did you put it on Vision 2020, a public forum?
Nice try dodging of the question.
