[Vision2020] Response to question about bar admission re: "A Swan Dive ?"

Cited below is a post from Wayne. I have paid no attention to the
discussion of the specific matter or individual, and have no comment
on it. But I thought the question about bar applicants was worth
taking the time to answer.
Idaho, and I believe most other states, still does consider "citizen"
comments regarding bar applicants. And, applicants are required to
file a detailed statement about their prior "activities" including
lawsuits in which they have been parties, insurance claims, criminal
charges major and minor (including traffic tickets). I believe that
any serious charge of misconduct, particularly that reflected
negatively on the ethics or honesty of a bar applicant would be
investigated and considered seriously by the admissions office. I
cannot tell you what might actually disqualify a person or perhaps
get him/her admitted on probation or any other conditioned status.
For a more complete answer, however, you could consult the Idaho
State Bar. You can find contact information, as well as a fairly
detailed discussion of how to file complaints against attorneys and
judges, the Idaho Code (statutes), and a plethora of other Idaho
legal-related information at www.state.id.us/isb.
Regards,
Mike Curley

This is old and may well be out of date.

A single parent friend of mine worked 40 - 60 hours per week and in
addition managed to earn a law degree from Gonzaga many years ago.
This person passed the bar exam first time with high marks.

She told me that she was afraid that she might not be admitted to the
bar because before the actually license to practice was issued there
was a period for people to make comments. This person did not have a
criminal record but had committed a minor indiscretion when she was
much younger. She was licensed.

Thus was a long time ago. I don't know if the process for allowing
comment after an applicant's passing the bar exam and before
licensing
is still practiced. I am not sure the magnitude of Cooper-Swan's
deception would be a problem anyway. It was dishonest and
hypocritical, but not in excess of what one might see in court most
days.

Perhaps a member of the bar could enlighten us.
