There were ACLU suits undertaken in 1993-94 to curtail those actions and 
Congressinal hearings on them in 1994 and 1996.  You would have been blind 
deaf or dumb not to have known at the time about plans that were floated for 
things like the Clipper Chip or the fact that under Reno's DOJ wire tapping 
of domestic targets grew at an annual rate of 33%.  Her year 2000 budget 
request included close to a billion dollars for domestic wire tapping.

Google Janet Reno, Justice Department, wire tapping.  You will get 173,000 
documents, many of them press reports on warrantless searchs and taps and 
complaints about their use to do domestic spying.  There are whole books on 
the subject.

I would suppose that because the targets were people you did not like you 
thought it A OK so did not bother reading about it at the time.
