It looks like the soldier in the statue in East City Park is carrying two German Stahlhelms on his left side. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? What is the story behind this? A Latah county soldier on a scalping mission on the European battlefields during World War II?

If the soldier is indeed carrying Stahlhelms, then why is he himself apparently wearing the WWI era M1917 Brodie helmet and not the WWII era M1? Does anyone have more information?
