[Vision2020] Safer Crossings

Thank you for your suggestions and information, Mr. Curley.

I would like to add the question of a pedestrian bridge that would cross
over the highway from the UI to Tri-State area. Right now, there is some
kinda funky folding sign in the middle of the street - any bets on how long
it'll last before someone road-kills it?

I'm not sure what that street coming off of the UI is across from Tri-State,
but a lot of kids seem to cross there at all times, including late at night
when people may not be as alert as they should be.

The problem at D/Mt. View is serious and there will be an accident sooner or
later. I don't understand why there are no crossing guards there. I
remember when we first moved here, 15 years ago, there was some kind of
four-way stop light - what happened to that? Is there some way that can be
returned? When the kids from MJHS are excused from school for the day and
cross over to Egan, it is like playing ping-pong, zig-zagging between cars,
kids, busses and workers at the Jr. High. To their very good credit, the
staff tries desperately to keep the kids hurded to the crossing that is
about 200-300 feet back from the D/Mt. View crossing. But I am sure we all
know just how well that goes - a kid wants to go somewhere, they're gonna go
no matter who says what. But if the traffic could be slowed down, the
potential for problems may be reducable. My main issue at that
intersection is the small children coming from McDonalds. I really think we
need an adult and possibly to engage the teens in helping get the wee ones
across that street. Maybe we could start a safety guard program like we had
in the 50's/60's? I think getting a 4-way on D/Mt. View would help with
F/Mt. View - it would slow the traffic down so the people trying to get to
the pool would have an easier time of it.

And what about a bike lane on Mt. View? I swear that street is just getting
set up for another tragic accident - it really is only a matter of time.

On third street, that meets with Home (I think) right past West Park...when
the traffic is heavy like in the AM or right after work, getting out of that
back street is almost impossible. Not to mention the streets above that -
Almon, Asbury and the like.

Just some ideas.
