"Freedom of expression" is a wonderful thing, but it ain't always news,
journalism, or reporting. Unfortunately, the proliferation of quick and
easy transmission of words via the 'Net also results in a corresponding lack
of accountability, responsibility, and protection of people's rights. I
was a third-generation print journalist, and I'm grateful for the press and
for radio/TV. I'm very often entertained by the 'Net, but I rarely equate
what I read in "auto-blogs" with real news.

(By "auto-blogs," I mean those blogs whose primary content is generated by
the Blogmeister).

Not that I haven't been treated with exquisite fairness and integrity by
local bloggers, though. Unh-uh. I just guess I get a little misty when I
remember the good ol' days when some crusty old editor held you accountable
for what you wrote . . .

. . . sniff . . .

Michael,

Your concern regarding those who advocate "toneing down" or otherwise
emasculating this forum, was understandable. A classic local example of
the
intolerance I was referring to. They might just as well try to stop plate
techtonics.... This medium is empowering, it is the future. Today's
young
benefit from a wide and diverse array of information sources. Internet
technology has enabled freedom of expression for the general public,
eliminated the
editor and owner middlemen. How sweet it is.

Best, --Tony
