The city recently mailed to all residents a one-page flyer summarizing the NewCity Moscow plan that has thus-far been developed through a series of meetings. The next stage is citizen input. I urge you to provide your input. You can attend the meeting (March 2, at the University Inn, 7pm) or send an email to newmoscow at ci.moscow.id.us

I was wary of the New Cities plan initially, but now fully support this process and the conclusions that have come from it. The New Cities process has captured the perspective that summarizes the majority of Moscow's citizens. The beliefs and values expressed in the recent NewCity Moscow "Possibilities" document are an authentic expression of the citizens of Moscow and a realistic blueprint for this community's development.

Moscow is a community with a unique level of , and commitment to, citizen involvement. Moscow residents are proud of their community and do not want it to become another soul-less strip mall town.

During the last decade, the proliferation of housing developments around Moscow's perimeter has awakened the community to the real possibility that this community could grow itself to death. Current residents recognize that they have been saddled with the huge expense of building the infrastructure (roads, utilities, fire protection, etc) to service the new housing. The community also has realized that these housing developments, while huge cash cows for the developers, have created a crazy-quilt of unrelated subdivisions, without parks, sidewalks, adequate streets, or trails to connect them to the city itself. And with on-going sprawl developments, like the big-box stores seeking to invade now, the growth at any cost spiral is continuing.

That is why the NewCity Moscow process is so important. This gives citizens a voice and an opportunity to form Moscow into a community that matches their dreams.
