[Vision2020] Latah County Writes!

This March and April, you are invited to Latah County Writes, a series of seven creative writing workshops and literary readings by local writers at the libraries of Latah County.  All events are free and open to the public, and writers (and listeners!) of all levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome.  
       Workshop topics will be Improvisational Poetry, Writing From Personal Documents, Character and Dialogue: Who Are They and What Are They Saying?, Writing Without Thinking, Place as Character, Scenes from a Life, and Creating Your Characters. The workshops will provide time for both on-the-spot writing and discussion of the craft of writing. 

       The schedule is as follows:

  Aimee Phan, Deary High School Library: Thurs. 3/2, 6-7 p.m. reading; 7-9 p.m. workshop on “Creating Your Characters.”  Call Sandy Dalton at 877-1207.  

  Andrea Clark Mason and Billy Merck, Juliaetta Library: Sat. 3/4, 1-4 p.m. workshop on “Character and Dialogue.” 4:30 reading.

  Mary Clearman Blew: Wed. 3/22, 7-8 p.m. reading at the Troy Libary; Sat. 3/25, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. workshop on “Writing From Personal Documents” at the Troy Lutheran Church. Bring a personal artifact, letter, or photo.  Call Leanne Brocke at 835-2041.

  Paula Coomer, Genesee Library: Wed. 3/29, 7-8 p.m. reading; Wed. 4/5, 7-9 p.m. workshop on “Place as Character.” Bring a photo of a favorite place.  Call Christine Gray at 285-1639 or email ceelgee at genesee-id.com

  Joy Passanante: Sat. 4/8, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. workshop on “Scenes >From a Life” at the 1912 Center in Moscow; Sun 4/9, 4 p.m. reading at BookPeople. Call Diane Baumgart at 882-0971 or email baumgart at moscow.com.  

  Judy Sobeloff, Bovill Library: Wed. 4/19, 5-7 p.m. workshop on “Writing Without Thinking.” 7-8 p.m. reading.  Bring a three-ring binder and 25 sheets of lined paper.  

  Pamela Yenser, Potlatch Library: Sat. 4/22, 9 a.m.-12 noon workshop on “Improvisational Poetry.” 1-2 p.m. reading.  Bring a double-sided sheet of poems with a strong voice, written by you or others.  Email donnaq at latahlibrary.org or fax (208) 875-1036.    



       Following the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to post something written during a workshop on the event website.  Sign up in advance for workshops either in person at the library or by calling the contact person listed.   (Walk-ins are welcome as space allows.)  Light refreshments will be served.        Latah County Writes is sponsored by the Moscow Community Creative Writing Workshop, Friends of the Moscow Library, and Friends of the Troy Library and is co-sponsored by the Latah County Library District, the Friends groups at each of the other five branch libraries, and the Kendrick-Juliaetta Arts Council.  This project is presented with the support of the Idaho Commission on the Arts, the Western States Arts Federation, the Latah County Arts and Culture Committee, and the Latah County Community Foundation.
