The point would be that a"special interest group" does not want "part of our
town." A group representing the owners of a piece of property are requesting
a rezone so that the land can be put to, what they believe is, a more
productive use. Zoning designations are not carved in stone. Changes are
made all the time to accommodate the changing needs of property owners and
the city as a whole. If you think that the land in question must remain
exclusively agricultural, I am sure that there is a number of dollars that
could be exchanged between yourself and the Thompson family to make this be
the case. Once you are the new owner feel free to recoup your investment by
making astute crop choices. I understand that there is a big market for okra
here on the palouse or at least up around highland drive.
