Matt,

Is your point that as long as someone doesn't cut someone’s head off with a rusty knife, then they cannot be criticized?

Again, I don't recall anyone suggesting that Doug Wilson is as bad as the worst fundamentalist extremist. But Doug Wilson has suggested that gays and lesbians deserve either exile or death. He hasn't killed any gays but he has suggested that death is a justifiable form of punishment for such an ‘offense.’ Maybe that doesn't bother you, since you're not gay, but it bothers me, even though I'm not gay.

Doug Wilson has also co-written a whole book on the justification of slavery, in particular, the justification of true Christians holding non-Christians as slaves. Maybe you're Christian and this doesn't bother you. But I'm Christian and it bothers me.

Maybe you're not African-American and you are not offended by his whitewashing of American history. Nonetheless, I am not African-American and it offends me.

None of Doug Wilson's sins are as bad as those who cut off people's heads with rusty knives. But I guarantee you if I were suggesting that these extremists were justified in their actions, you'd be criticizing me -- and for good reason! Similarly, if I choose to criticize someone who condones exile, death, and slavery for folks who happen to live different lives than he thinks is proper, why exactly is this wrong? Why isn’t this exactly what any thinking, breathing person should do?

I don't need to wait until someone cuts someone's head off in order to tell him that he's gone too far.
