I have identified at least 4 species of wild terrestrial orchid plants up in
the Idler's Rest area. Calypso bulbosa in particular is very rare generally
but has a huge population there, viewable in moist springs, fairly early.
You will also find two different coral root orchids, the spotted coral root,
and the striped coral. There are only a few plants of these, but they have
tall, showy spikes. Other species are quite modest, but I know where they
are. I suspect there are some other species there that I simply have not
discovered. I know about sitings of lady's slippers in our region, for
example. Real lady's slippers (Cypripedium).

If I find anybody running over these with their off-road vehicles, I'll be
really really PISSED OFF!

Just my 2 cents worth...

Can we get a years extension on the Nature Conservancy's lease if need be?
