Just a reminder -
The oath of office starts with the words "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) .
. . "
>From the US Government's National Endowment for the Humanities at:

"The Constitution offers a choice. Presidents may "swear" (on a Bible) or
"affirm" their oath (on some other book)."
Another thing that was reflected in a statement I heard a while ago. The
person taking the oath, places his/her hand on the Bible (or some other
book) declaring to defend the Constitution. They do not place their hand on
the Constitution declaring to defend the Bible.
OK?

safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
sideways, chocolate in one hand, a drink in the other, body thoroughly used
up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO. What a ride!'"

"May I remind the readers of this page that under the Constitution of
the United States, no religious statement whatsoever is required in
the swearing in of the President. I presume this would be the model
for swearing-in for all other public offices."--RN
So what.
Was someone requiring it?
Most the Presidents put their hand on the Bible, and swore on it, did they
not?

Andreas,
And the price of tea in China is?
I was unaware that the Pledge was a prayer. I thought it was a
public statement of loyalty to the country and the people in it, just
like an oath of office.
