This is a tragedy on a lot of different levels -- obviously this young man
has a lot of anger, hopelessness, confusion and fear in his heart, and it's
sad that whatever religious/spiritual training he received didn't supplant
the despair that seems to have taken over. I have no idea what church he or
his family attends, but whatever church it was -- Christ Church or not --
isn't responsible for his behavior. Maybe some warning signs were missed,
or maybe he was treated unfairly and felt justified in going on such a
spree, or maybe he was a non-attender, but the fact remains that he and he
alone is accountable.
Yes, if I were his mom, his pastor, or his victim, I'd have a lot of things
to reflect on. And Lord knows I wish Christ Church wasn't opposed to public
schooling, dismissive of other churches, and generally pretty arrogant in
its public conduct -- but until I hear Wilson or one of the elders
preaching on the appropriateness of theft and vandalism, I'm not about to
connect them to, much less condemn them for, this man's actions.
I pray this guy is treated with justice -- not leniency -- and I hope his
heart is transformed by a relationship not only with God, but with a caring
body of people who will love him, teach him, and encourage him. And I'd
have no hesitation in condemning a church that would turn its back on him,
just as I'd love to publicly praise one that would extend a loving hand.
Until then, let's just see what happens and not focus on things we know
nothing about.

What a kindness you show in this post! Here is a family that is hurting from
the actions of a troubled child and you show the gentleness and kindness of
Jesus with this hatred? Tell me which church you go to that teaches this is
Christianity because I will be sure to avoid that theology.
