Tom,

I'm glad he made it. He did everything right. Fortunately, the driver  
did too. But, I've seen (and been in) situations where the driver was  
focused on on-coming traffic, trying to judge whether it was safe to  
turn, and did not notice the pedestrian. A four-way stop would have  
make the drivers proper action mandatory, not just a matter of fortune.
