I meant to say, Why not a HIGHER standard minimum wage?

Gary,

It has nothing to do with free market vs. non-free market. Do you think we would be better off if private businesses ran the department of defense? If not, then you think that some costs are the responsibility of the government and not all economic decisions are dictated by market considerations.

The question is, Why shouldn't the assurance of a living wage be one of those things? Maybe it should be and maybe it shouldn't be. But you can't just brush aside the issue by holding on to the term 'free market.' Everyone that I know is in favor of a free market as far as it goes. The devil is in the details.

Why not a standard minimum wage? How is this more of a waste of our tax dollars than, say, the current war in Iraq?

Best, Joe

Matt, How come the song and dance is always "I pay a good wage but that
nasty other guy will abuse the system." In a free market the pitiful McD
workers can all quit and go to work for you. Problem solved, no government
intervention required.

Gary
