[Vision2020] The Same Old Story (was Persecution By Any OtherName)

And I'm sure that if and when Aaron's integrity proves to be compromised in
his dealing with NSA -- not his difference of opinion, but his integrity --
you will protest as loudly as you should. Until we have any evidence that
Aaron has acted improperly, though, by making how "he feels about a group's
beliefs and practices" (your words) the basis of the decision-making
process, we ought to simply accord him the right to hold to a viewpoint he
has proclaimed publicly and clearly.

Having strong views that others disagree with is a tricky thing in an
elected official -- and I purposely didn't weigh in on (in Vision 2020 or
elsewhere) the zoning battle with the alt school, or the teaching of
evolution, or other things that I might have had to decide as a trustee,
just so that separation between duty and belief is clearer. But Aaron
deserves kudos for being honest and forthright about how he sees NSA, and
until someone shows me that he has deliberately violated policy, procedure,
or the parameters of honest public service, I will withhold judgment on how
he does his job for the city.

Ms. Mix, I could not agree with you more. It is very clear to me that Mr.
Ament publicly and vehemently disagrees with NSA's beliefs and practices.
Unfortunately, as a council person, how he feels about a groups beliefs and
practices is not supposed to be part of the decision making process. I
thought that a rational and unbiased look at the issues in any given matter
was the ideal.
