Question: How can you trust somebody to have faith in our city if their
allegiance is only to themselves?

Thoughts?

>Dear Visionaries,

>Peg Hamlett ratted out other people in exchange for leniency or the
>dropping of charges in her own case. This fact can be verified by a number
>of current Moscow residents, especially those who did time because Peg
>snitched on them. But now she lies about it, further aggravating the grief
>that she caused to save her own skin. It would have been far better if
>Daily News columnist, Vera White, had simply left it alone (see September
>23). She was either trying to help Ms. Hamlett or Ms. Hamlett called on
>White to help squelch those "ugly rumors." The fact that the Chief of
>Police could find no "local record" of Ms. Hamlett being charged with a
>drug crime doesn't mean that she wasn't arrested for one. Those who did the
>time obviously don't want to come forward. Others who know are afraid to
>come forward. And those who probably know the legal system best, local
>lawyers, won't comment because Ms. Hamlett's husband is a judge -- and was
>the prosecutor at the time she was arrested. !
> But Peg Hamlett's dirty little secret is common knowledge to those in
>the know. She rolled on her friends and she won't admit it. She should
>have left it alone or told the truth. But since she raised the issue, the
>truth needs to come out. Some of Moscow's citizens can't vote anymore
>because of Peg. Personally, I don't want a mayor with no more ethics than
>demonstrated then -- or now.
