Moscow Food Co-op Cookbook Signing Party Announced

To celebrate the opening of the new location of the Moscow Food Co-op, the Co-op has published its first cookbook, containing the recipes for 45 of the favorite foods (from kale slaw to carrot cake and tabouli to hummus) produced by the Co-op deli and bakery. The 100-page, spiral-bound cookbook is on sale at the Co-op for $10 per copy, and the funds generated will help pay for the move to the new location at Fifth and Washington streets in downtown Moscow.

The public is invited to the cookbook signing and welcoming reception, at the Co-op, 121 East Fifth Street, on Friday, October 28, 5pm to 6:30pm.

The cookbook took several years of careful preparation. First, Co-op Kitchen Manager Amy Richard and her crew identified the hot-selling items. Then, each recipe was home-tested by the Co-op staff to make sure the ingredients and directions worked for family kitchens. Then, a writing and design team arranged the basic recipes into an attractive book format.

Co-op newsletter food writer Judy Sobeloff authored individual food narratives, detailing, in her off-beat humorous style, how each recipe was created. Taylor Barrett designed the book and took the cover photo. Bill London served as editor, and the Co-op published the book. The cookbook is only available at the Moscow Food Co-op.

The Co-op opened at the new location on Saturday, October 15. The new Co-op building began as a Safeway in 1960 and then in 1978 became a sporting goods store. The new building, with 15,000 square feet, is twice the size of the Co-op's former location on Third Street.

At the new store, the Co-op is adding sales of fresh natural meats, expanding the Co-op Deli seating area with the inclusion of a small stage for performances as well as expanded wall space for art exhibits, and increasing the size of the Co-op Bakery and all sales departments. The hours of operation will continue to be 7:30am to 9pm daily.
