It is with trepidation that I post this because we could really clog the
system with books that are a good read. However, I enjoyed the book "Near a
Thousand Tables" by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto. I also got it through
Bookpeople and its history of food was fascinating. I will be putting in an
order for your offering Keely and I thank you.

Oops . . . make that Tom Standage, not Stoddard. Stoddard is, I believe,
the wine critic who died in a plane crash a few years ago.

On a totally different front, and hoping that it's OK in Visionland to
recommend good stuff, I would recommend a wonderful book I'm reading called
"A History of the World in Six Glasses" by Tom Stoddard. It traces the
history of civilization through beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea and
Coca-Cola (I was saddened to learn that my childhood favorite, Orange Crush,
is significant only to me and has had scant little effect on the rest of the
world . . . ). It's well written, entertaining, and offers a fascinating
take on the importance of what people drink, produce, condemn and embrace.
I bet the good folks at BookPeople would be glad to order you a copy -- it's
well worth it.
Enjoying a nice glass of Pinot Grigio as my salute to history,
