[Vision2020] Evolution's Sky

The carbon oxide atmosphere
Of the swirling mist of time
That damps the cool of healing rain
To the Proterozoic slime
Creeping in a puddled mass
Eating toxins by the ream
To the tune of hissing vapor trails
Of an ultraviolet dream

And in the sky high interface
Where the universe begins
On the seed of a fleck of iron dust
Twists the root of creation
As green spore chloroplast takes shape
A new era has been spawned
That will see the borning chain to eyes
Which may gaze upon the dawn

A ladder twining in the sun
That in just two billion years
Will fill three quarters of the planet up
With an ocean made of tears
That will bake to vapor in Sol’s heat
As it reaches for the sky once more
To stand on the edge of the universe
With the stars to sing the score

So play me Venus when you cool
For I’ve lost my taste for earth
And I’ve cried my tears in oceans
In the place that gave me birth
And lift me on a water jet
To the dark and sultry sky
And let me taste the universe
Just once before I die
