Hmmm, if walks like a duck and talks like a duck............If they are
TEACHING something doesn't that mean that they are a school?
Hair stylists/barbers are required a license, if I'm correct. I'm not sure
about massage therapists.
Regardless of what they are listed as, they are providing an education,
whether it is for profit or not. There are any number of "for profit"
schools around, ITT and DeVry are two, I believe.

school
n.
An institution for the instruction of children or people under college age.
An institution for instruction in a skill or business: a secretarial school;
a karate school.

A college or university.
An institution within or associated with a college or university that gives
instruction in a specialized field and recommends candidates for degrees.
A division of an educational institution constituting several grades or
classes: advanced to the upper school.
The student body of an educational institution.
The building or group of buildings housing an educational institution.

A school is a school.
Who cares if the students are encouraged to support CC buisnesses? That has
been a tradition among many groups in our society. To list a few: Gypsies,
Jews, Japanese, Korean, German, Chinese. How do think SF got a "China Town"?
I doubt that you would be out taking potshots at any of those groups.
Those 150 students have to eat, house themselves and purchase goods. Whether
the businesses are CC member owned or not, those businesses contribute to
the tax base of this community.
What it boils down to is a small cadre doesn't like what CC, NSA and Wilson
have to say, so they will do anything and everything to drive them off.
The heart of the matter is purely ideological.

Mr. Leon's is a retail business as the "students" are giving/being paid for
hair care. They also sell hair products, etc. Their numbers are FAR less
than NSA and they have a very low impact on the downtown area in regards to
parking for their students. Not to mention they use the other down town
businesses.

Mr. Leon's is listed NOT as a school but as a Corporation/General Business
with the State of Idaho. Mr. Leon's pays taxes.

The Moscow School of Massage is listed with the State of Idaho as being a
Corporation/General Business. The Moscow School of Massage does pay taxes.

The only thing NSA is selling is how to be an isolationist - the are
told/"encouraged" to shop among CC businesses; while SOME of them do use the
Co-op that is a very low number; the parking for 150 students (possibly as
many as 500 if Doug has his way) can be very overwhelming to the area; there
is absolutely nothing even remotely "retail" about them - they sell their
text books among themselves for their classes.

New Saint Andrews IS listed as a school with the State of Idaho and in fact
DOES have a certification and authorization from the State to operate as a
school. NSA does NOT pay taxes.

Sorry - different kind of items.

According to the State of Idaho Secretary of State office any business can
call itself what it wants - those two examples added "school" to their name
- doesn't mean they necessarily fall into the category of what the
traditional definition of school is. Nor do they have certification or
recognition by the State Department of Education as being schools.
