[Vision2020] RE: assessors and appraisers

I just got off the phone with the Assessor's office...I was told that if the
assessor is in the area of your home, you are likely to get your house
assessed along with the one he/she is scheduled to be doing.

And, yes, you CAN make appointments with their office for them to assess
your home. They have houses they inspect yearly, but most are on a five
year schedule. The difference has to do with the development in an area.

The taxing value is partly based on what your house looks like compared to
your neighbors. For instance, if you have a really extensive lawn area, but
your neighbor does not, their taxes may be less than your's. If your house
is not as new as the neighbor's, your taxes may be less. And the value
changes based on improvements, deterioration, the area, etc.

And you CAN go see what the assessed tax value is and if the taxes are
paid/up-to-date on ANY property in town, as they have that information
available to the public.

Realtors will give you a price they think your house will go for based on
the market in the area, the economic times, and the assessed value. It is
not any ONE thing.
