Scholar Chomsky to give Potter lecture at WSU

PULLMAN -- Influential scholar Noam Chomsky will give the 2005 Potter
Memorial Lecture at Washington State University at 3:30 p.m. April 22
in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

"Imminent Crises: Responsibilities and Opportunities" is the title of
Chomsky's speech.

The event is free and open to the public.

"Chomsky's appearance at Washington State University provides a rare
opportunity for faculty, students and residents of the Palouse," said
David Shier, chairman of the philosophy department. "Noam Chomsky is
one of the most respected scholars of our age."

Chomsky, a Philadelphia native, is professor of linguistics and
philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Chomsky has written books and articles analyzing U.S. foreign policy
over the past 50 years. Among them are "Hegemony or Survival,"
"Understanding Power," "Rogue States," "9-11," "On Language," "Media
Control," "Secrets, Lies and Democracy" and "Middle East Illusions."
