Visionaries,
The Latah Economic Development Council originally began as a committee of
the Moscow Chamber of Commerce. In the mid-1980's, it split off and became
the Moscow-Latah Economic Development Council. To broaden the vision, it
then transformed to the Latah Economic Development Council because of the
countywide projects and job creation.
The Council is open to all people in Latah County and encourages applicants
from the rural areas as well as Moscow. Ideally, there would be
representatives from all areas as suggested in recent Vision 2020 posts.
It's not that easy. The LEDC has done a number of positive things for the
area, but it does take time and dedication on the part of its members. It's
easy to burnout volunteers. The projects and jobs created by the Council
are in the rural areas as well as Moscow, therefore the Latah name.
Some of the LEDC accomplishments include the U-I Business Technology
Incubator, formation of the Urban Renewal Agency, development of Alturas
Technology Park, recruiting AHA-Comtech and construction of their new
building, recruiting Potting Shed Creations to relocate in Troy, assistance
and contributions to the Clearwater Economic Development Association
revolving loan fund that returns to fund numerous job creation projects in
all of Latah County. These are just a few of the many projects of the LEDC.
I encourage all interested people to become members and apply for a board
position. A list of current board members including open positions (listed
in blue) is attached. Please feel free to email me at bjswan at moscow.com or
Barbara Crouch at edc at moscow.com with a brief bio outlining your economic
development interest/qualifications and you will be considered for a board
position. The deadline is today, elections will be held April 6.
