Commissioner Dewey Hammond of the Idaho Tax Commission reported that May 05
tax revenues for the State of Idaho totaled $197.6 million--a new record or
$5.7 million more than May of 04. Sales tax receipts continue to be especially
strong.
It appears that sufficient increase in tax revenues should be in by the end
of June so that the surplus eliminator passed by the Legislature will
generate a 1% salary increase for state employees. This will be a one time
only increase just for the year and distributed as merit pay.
The 10 extra tax auditors hired two years ago by the State Tax Commission
to go after non-tax payers will generate a net to the State this year of
about $15 million.
