Steven,

I'm getting back to you concerning the use of copyrighted material on the
internet for blogs.

This is all from the Legal Guide for Bloggers
(http://www.eff.org/bloggers/lg/).

1. Fair Use (http://www.eff.org/bloggers/lg/faq-ip.php) means that "short"
(undefined) quotations are fair use, not copyright infringement.
2. Non-commercial use (e.g., my blog) is considered fair use.
3. Transformative use (comments/highlights/underlines/etc) are especially
considered fair use.
4. Deep linking is legal.
5. Images are subject to the same copyright and fair use laws as written
materials. You only take what's needed to convey your point. Smaller
images/thumbnails are considered fair use.

After consulting a copyright attorney, all of the images on my blog fall
under fair use. So I've not violated any laws.

I know that will ease everyone's minds.

Best,
Dale

The general idea is that you can't publish works unless YOU have a
copyright, and you don't have it unless the creator of that work gives you
express permission.

This might be wishy-washy for e-mails, but photographs are very definitely
copyrighted the minute they are created, so any photo you look at is
copyrighted. It is only in the "public domain" if its creator was the
government, then by definition it belongs to all of us, as we are the
government.

"If anyone finds one, please let me know and I'll pull it immediately."

So, I would say that any image on your site that you did not create or
recieve permission from the creator, please take them down. Also, including
an image from someone else's server in your webpage does not mean you are
not violating their copyright. You are still publishing their work, and
beyond that you are stealing their bandwidth by 'hotlinking'. As a
webmaster, I would be doubly angry about that.

Anyone publishing borrowed content should know about copyright law. Here is
a great site you should read up on: www.whatiscopyright.org

Glad I could be of assistance in helping you be fair and honest and correct
your mistakes, as you seem to be a man very concerned with the truth.

Kindly,

Steven Simmons

Scott,

Thanks for the kind words. I freely admit to being "right" -- but not a

neo-conservative; and certainly not a fascist or a socialist (wrapping back

around the back-side to the Left).

And I do try to be fair and honest; correct my mistakes; and give reference

to all the sources I cite. I do not find it "rude" or "unchristian" not to

back down from things that are right -- even when it pokes a hole in

someone's pet theories.

FWIW, the pictures I link to (yes, the vast majority are external links to

Internet pictures -- check it out) are not copyrighted. I'm very careful to

not pull any picture with a copyright on it.

If anyone finds one, please let me know and I'll pull it immediately.

Best,

Dale

My view is completely different from just about everyone who has posted on

this subject. I think Dale Courtney is actually a quite pleasant and

reasonable debater. And yes, his blog is overly slanted to the far right.

It's his blog. I don't agree with many of his opinions, but he clearly (to

me) does not come across rude. I'm sure you can cite some anecdotal

evidence (v2020 and blog posts) that contradict my statement, but I'm also

sure you can find some pretty vitriolic posts from me if you scanned the

archives.

I like Dale. I love Joan. I'm not fond of Doug Wilson.

It seems to me too much time and mental energy is wasted on Mr.

Surely we have better things to do. Has anyone looked outside yet?

It's beautiful out there! Take a break and get a cup of coffee at One

World Cafe. Discuss your views amongst the crowd that knows and loves

you well - and likes you anyway :) Dale Courtney has his viewpoints

and opinions, just like the rest of us. I do not think he is the best

spokesman for his church and quite honestly, probably contributes to

their negative publicity.

Something to keep in mind

when discussing NSA in general.

Any other NSA members out there have a viewpoint you'd like to share?

Don't let Dale be your voice, you are good Christians I'm sure, speak

up for yourself if you feel differently.

Until then, let's enjoy the sunshine and keep our hearts light.

Bless you all,

EWF
