Critics Slam Bush Bashes as Black Tie Bombs
Washington, DC - President Bush may be about to catch hell over his $40
million splurge on his inaugural festivities while the rest of the country
is down in the dumps, some literally, and some just figuratively over the
Indian Ocean Tsunami and the now scandalous Oil for Fools War in Iraq.
Critics have expressed feelings that such a lavish celebration at such a
somber time in the world is in abominable, atrocious, awful, bad, cheesy,
god-awful, and even in sleazy taste. And those are just the critics from the
red states. Precedent, formerly not ignored being precedent (that is until
this administration), dictates that inaugural festivities should be low-key,
if not cancelled altogether during wartime. As of this writing, the bar tab
alone could probably pay for 700 Humvees (even with wheels that don't fall
off), 50 billion packs of the dietary staple Cheez-on-Wheats, and a bonus to
each of the troops of $99.95. Not to leave them out of the fun, President
Bush said the activities and events would be military themed, such as the
"Commander-in-Chief Cotillion," and a "Salute to Service Men (and Wimmin)
Soiree," but no word yet on whether Bush is going to dress up himself, or
leave his uniform-enhancing codpiece home in his sock drawer.
