49% Protest Rally Set for Inauguration Day

A protest rally by representatives of the 49% who voted against President Bush will fill Friendship Square in downtown Moscow at noon on Thursday, January 20th, Inauguration Day.

The rally will include local speakers, games, prizes, music from the Peace Band, information from local progressive organizations, and the opportunity to send a postcard chiding President Bush for his policies.

Rally organizer Joan Opyr says she was inspired by the HBO film "Iron-Jawed Angels," which chronicled the often-violent struggle for women's suffrage. "Those women fought an incredible battle to earn the vote," Opyr says. "I decided we need to continue that struggle for representation by resisting the Bush
administration's false claim to massive, broad-based support."

Participants are encouraged to bring their own signs. The rally is
expected to last about an hour. Questions can be directed to Joan Opyr at
