Jus offering an alternative to tonight's Mistake of the Union Address.

Take care,

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are
dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all
exist very nicely in the same box.

Dear Friend,

Tonight many of you will be watching President Bush's State of the Union
address, keenly listening for a description of his plans for US operations
in Iraq now that elections have taken place.

I, too, am very interested in what he has to say but also, like you, have my
own ideas about what should happen next. I will be on PBS's Newshour with
Jim Lehrer tonight discussing what I think the US should do in Iraq now.
Check your local listings for the showtime here:

Please watch the Newshour and join the discussion on our blog, This Is Rumor
<http://click.allianceforsecurity.org/t?ctl=B58264:3022826> Control, about
what the U.S. should do in Iraq.

As I have said before, I can't help having the eerie feeling that we have
been here before. Take a look at this headline from the New York Times in
1967: "U.S. ENCOURAGED BY VIETNAM VOTE: Officials Cite 83% Turnout Despite
Vietcong Terror." You only need to substitute Iraq for Vietnam in the rest
of the article (found here
<http://click.allianceforsecurity.org/t?ctl=B58262:3022826> ) to really see
how we have already been down this road and have failed to learn the lessons
from the past.

I hope that you will encourage your friends and family to watch the Newshour
and join our online discussion.

It is still vital that we continue what we started last fall and keep asking
the hard questions about US actions in Iraq and around the world. An open
discussion of ideas is the foundation of our democracy and I thank you for
helping me keep that alive.

Sincerely,

Bobby
