Jose,
I don't know you and I hope that you don't find the heading of this posting
offensive in any way. But your posting was so off-base that I could not
resist. (In the event that you do not even exist, then I am REALLY sorry for
writing this.)
I respect Ed Iverson's right to hold his own opinions -- as ridiculous,
ill-formed, and offensive as they may be -- but the fact that he is given a
WEEKLY column to express them shows just how jaded our newspaper has become.
(Rose Huskey has already noted this in her 8/27 posting, "Daily News
Cancellation Letter.")
To say that, in granting this privilege to Iverson, the Daily News is merely
allowing "disparate (desperate?) views to be expressed" suggests that there
is equal space given to alternative views. But I'll give you $100 if you can
find even one local opinion essay printed in the Daily News within the last
week dealing with an alternative theory of the nature of morality. And I can
tell you of no fewer than 10 folks in the area who are more qualified and
able to speak to the subject than Iverson.
Furthermore, to my knowledge, there has been exactly one op/ed essay against
NSA/Christ Church printed during the summer, the beautiful piece by Huskey
and Lund. That was soon followed by a rebuttal op/ed piece by Wilson
himself, revealing a common policy of the Daily News, to allow rebuttals on
this issue only when NSA/Christ Church is under attack.
In addition to Iverson's weekly column we are subject to the occasional but
slanted views of Murf Raquet, who, in his latest rant, felt the need to note
the turbulent atmosphere of a zoning meeting that HE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO
ATTEND. (I know because I WAS there.)
I'll-let-you-know Joe
