[Vision2020] What is an alternative high school?

Sure, Janesta -- Paradise Creek Regional High School, often just called the 
alternative high school, attracts non-traditional or at-risk students from 
throughout Latah County.  Some are at PCRHS only, others are dual-enrolled 
in their home district's high school as well as PCRHS.

Currently PCRHS is housed in Dr. Weitz' building, the former convenience 
store across from the Conoco just north of town.  Dr. Weitz has been 
incredibly generous; however, the building is simply too small.  The 
principal, Carole Jones, is also the principal at Russell Elementary.

Non-traditional/at-risk students are those who need more flexibility in 
their schedules because of work or family situations, as well as those who 
just respond better to the more one-on-one nature of the school, which has a 
part-time counselor and, I believe, two fulltime teachers.  The alt school 
exists to give them every opportunity not only to graduate but to succeed.  
It currently offers a CNA program that many of the students are enrolled in. 
We'd like to expand core, elective, and voc-tech type classes.  Current 
enrollment is about 50 kids, a little more than half of whom are 
dual-enrolled from MSD and other Latah districts.

Why do we have one?

Someone made a comment, Keely, perhaps, I can't recall
(see, i do read some of the posts...... *grin*) that
the school district was expecting more students to the
alternative high school... forgive me, I can't recall
the exact  name of it.

If any of you have an answer, I would appreciate it!
