Tim Rigsby stated:

"What is the difference between someone who uses steroids for sport
enhancement and the athlete that gets reconstructive surgery on their
shoulder/hip/knee etc that has the potential to improve their performance
and level of play?"

Well, Tim . . .

One (use of anabolic steroids) is illegal and causes things to happen
prematurely. Things like . . . uh . . . er . . . death. For example: Lyle
Alzado to name one of many.

The other (reconstructive surgery), although expensive (but then, what is
"expensive" to a major league baseball player?), tend to increase the
chances of the patient's prolonged and profitable future.

Thanks for bringing it up, Tim

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are
dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all
exist very nicely in the same box.

Subject: [Vision2020] Sport Ethics Question

UI President Dr. Tim White posed a very interesting question to me last
night
concerning Baseball and Steroid use. Since the people who post and view
this list-
serve are diverse and even highly intelligent I figured I would pass the
question on
to start a whole new round of debate. So here it goes:

What is the difference between someone who uses steroids for sport
enhancement and
the athlete that gets reconstructive surgery on their shoulder/hip/knee etc
that
has the potential to improve their performance and level of play?

Go Mariners!!!

Tim
