Troy Lions to host candidate forum
TROY, IDAHO October 21, 2004: The Troy Lions Club will host an all-candidate forum in advance of upcoming local elections. The forum will be held on Monday October 25, at 6:45pm at the Troy Lions community center in downtown Troy, Idaho. The Friendly Senior Citizens of Troy will provide refreshments.
Focusing on this years 5 contested local races, the forum will provide a moderated question and answer session in rural Latah County. The Troy Lions forum will appeal to voters who live away from county population centers, and who may not otherwise have an opportunity to meet the candidates.
Covered races will include the Idaho state representative contests, the Latah County commissioner contests, and the sheriffs contest. All candidates for these races have committed to appear in the Troy Lions forum:
Idaho House of Representatives:
Tom Trail (R, incumbent) v. Mark Solomon (D)
Shirley Ringo (D, incumbent) v. Earl Bennett (R)
Latah County Commissioner:
Tom Stroschein (D, incumbent) v. Jeff Harkins (R)
Jack Nelson (R, incumbent) v. Linda Pike (D)
Latah County Sheriff:
Jeff Crouch (D, incumbent) v. Wayne Rausch (R) v. Joe Overstreet (I)
Under the moderated format, each candidate will be asked to make a brief opening presentation, followed by written questions from the audience. Candidates will then be asked to conclude with a summary statement. An offline opportunity for voters and candidates to meet will be available during and after each moderated session, time permitting.
The Troy Lions are meeting a need by providing a way for candidates to meet voters and vice versa, said Lions President Tom Saylor. We are pleased to offer a venue for dialogue with rural constituents.
