Visionary Mariner Fans:
I personally would have rather had them keep Bob Melvin and use the saved $$$ to pursue CARLOS BELTRAN. Can you imagine Ichiro and Beltran as the leadoff and no. 2 in the lineup???
What a fantasy!
Oh well, I guess Hargrove is OK too. As long as they still pursue Beltran that is.

MARINERS NAME MIKE HARGROVE MANAGER THROUGH '07
Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager
of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today the Mariners
have named Mike Hargrove as field manager. Hargrove has agreed
to a contract for the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.
"I am very pleased to name Mike Hargrove as our new manager,"
Bavasi said. "He has a tremendous resume and is battle tested
in every facet of leading a Major League club."
Hargrove, who turns 55 on Oct. 26, spent last season as an
assistant to Cleveland Indians GM Mark Shapiro. He has 13 seasons
of managerial experience at the Major League level, first with
the Indians from 1991-1999, when they won five consecutive Central
Division titles (1995-1999) and two American League titles (1995
and 1997). He then managed the Baltimore Orioles from 2000-2003.
