Rose et. al.
This was an excellent elucidation of your position.
Remember, though, that many who think as Wilson does, and this includes
millions of fundamentalist evangelicals in America, believe that God bestows the
rights of the State, with God coming first. They do not look at the State and
God as separate authorities with each authority having a different and
appropriate realm of command, as it were. This is the secularization, the removal God
of government, that many evangelicals are rebelling against. This is a very
commonly held position today, placing Wilson more into the mainstream of
current American Christianity, than I think some people realize. There is a very
large group of activist evangelicals in America, again, millions of them, who
want God in government, and are working towards that end
It is against the religious beliefs of people who think in this manner to
view taxation by government as an issue than can be separated from the moral
command and authority of God, regardless of the statement you quoted allegedly
spoken by Christ, that appears to suggest government and religion operate with
separate claims and authority.
