I share many of her concerns. In many respects it is my sense that the
folks organizing this group - (they apparently are engaged in starting
similar schools in Oregon, Arizona, and Alaska) have recognized a target
audience, home schoolers, and hope to capitalize on that market. While =

have no quarrel with the concept, and in fact applaud and encourage
educators who reach out to this undeserved population, I am very =
cautious
how our tax dollars will be used. Perhaps someone in 2020 land knows =
what
percentage of home schoolers teach their children at home to avoid the
"contamination" of government schools. It would be instructive to know
that. It is my sense, and particularly since Marlin Detweiler's press,
Veritas Press, seems to be a potential curriculum offered by Idaho =
Distance
Education, that they are sailing pretty close to the wind regarding =
church /
state issues. I need hardly remark that I don't want a single penny of =
my
tax dollars used for religious education in public schools. I =
understand
that while specific doctrinal areas must be avoided, does that mean that =
the
science courses will be able to include creationism as an equally valid
explanation of the origin and differentiation of life forms?. If so, =
does
this cross the line in Idaho? =20
The web sites for this organization are not completed - and I am still
unclear about who actually conceived this idea and serves as the parent
corporation. But one thing I do know, the last thing that Idaho needs =
is
another virtual academy. =20

If homeschooler Greg Vance thinks this is a solution to underfunded
education in Idaho, or that parents are automatically qualified to be
teachers by virtue of their biological contribution, he is just dead =
wrong.
And, I guess I have to add in that if this is just a stealth way for =
home
school "classical education" providers aka Wilson, Inc. to sell his
curriculum to folks who can't afford tuition at Logos, well, you guessed =
it,
YIKES.
