Bill, et al,

Perhaps your argument would be a little stronger if we were not talking were
not about a school which is shaping young citizens of our community.

Suppose there was a school called Ecstasy. Suppose rumors were that this
school taught young men and women how to pursue a profitable career in drug
dealing or prostitution.

Would not the community have an interest in what is going on at that school?
Would non-responses to questions from concerned citizens from the school
headmaster create further rumors and distrust?

Logos school has been accused of teaching sexist, homophobic,
neo-confederate, and many other doctrines that are probably as repugnant as
drug dealing and prostitution to the majority of Palouse region citizens.

Naturally people want to know the facts. An open society thrives on
critical examination of ideas. If Logos is indoctrinating children with the
doctrines mentioned above, people have a right to be concerned.

If Logos is ashamed or embarrassed by what they are doing, then they won't
answer the concerns expressed by Rose Huskey which are shared by many
people.

If Logos thinks their doctrines are correct, then the facts should be
offered. If the doctrines are correct, then these doctrines should be able
to stand the test of critical examination. If the doctrines are not correct
and Logos is unable to successfully defend them, then the community has
choices to make.

Garfield to respond

  Ms. Huskey,

I must admit I've have always had a problem with the
"if-you-have-nothing-to-hide-why-don't-you-tell-us" approach. Many of the
questions you asked are the business of Logos school and the people who
enroll their children there. If Mr. Garfield declines to answer, are we then
going to respond with a "Well, what are you hiding"?

When I was co-owner of Pacific Simulation I would be asked questions like
"are female engineers paid the same as their male co-workers"? If I'm not
willing to discuss this with people outside the company, does this mean I'm
hiding something? Since when is full disclosure equated with ethical
practices? As long as I followed federal guidelines, these things are simply
not the concern of people outside the organization. If I wanted to keep
quality people, I would pay them well and treat them fairly. So was I hiding
something? Sorry - that's our concern, not anyone else's.

Every question you asked would be things I would also ask if I was
considering having my children attend Logos. However, my three daughters
attend MSD where they receive what I consider to be a quality education. I
think that contacting Mr. Garfield as has been suggested is a good idea. But
if he chooses not to respond, it just means that Logos prefers their
privacy. I do hope he answers as I am interested in what he would say. But I
won't draw any conclusions about Logos if he doesn't reply.

When my teenage daughter prefers her bedroom door to be closed when she is
chatting with her friends, this doesn't mean she is doing anything illegal,
immoral or discourteous. It just means she likes her privacy.
