Visionaries:

We have had occasional conversations about policies and curriculum at Logos
School. In the past we have been encouraged by a variety of Logos supporters
to contact Tom Garfield directly in order to obtain answers. Therefore, I have
sent the following email to Tom Garfield, superintendent of Logos school. I
will share my response (if any) on line with Vision 2020.
Rose Huskey
Once you lose integrity everything else is easy.

Dear Tom Garfield:

Issues surrounding Logos School have often been raised on Vision 2020, a
local Internet chat group. It would be helpful if you could respond to some of
the concerns voiced, and also present an official overview of the school, its
curriculum, and its goals. To that end, I respectfully ask you to respond to
the following questions.

1. Why is corporal punishment administered at Logos School? What student
behavior results in corporal punishment? At what age are students considered to
old to hit? Is there a gender differentiation - that is, are girls as well
as boys hit? Do "birthday spankings" occur at Logos School, and who
administers them?

2. There are allegations that the establishment of the Confederacy and
"biblically permitted" slave holding are viewed sympathetically at Logos. Is this
the case? Is the Confederacy painted as the last, great bastion of Christian
government and behavior in the United States? You will recognize that this
question is asked because of the booklet "Slavery as It Was" by Doug Wilson and
Steve Wilkins. Would it be accurate to describe the history curriculum at
Logos as sympathetic to, or sharing the same perspective, as the one held by
Wilson and Wilkins in their book?

3. Logos is 20 years plus old. It is (arguably) understandable that during
its early years establishing a program for students requiring special
education support might be delayed. However, that was then and this is now. What
(currently in place) special education programs and support systems are available
to students at Logos? Is there a certified special education teacher on
staff? Does Logos admit students who are developmentally delayed or physically
challenged? If so, how many such students are currently attending Logos School.
If not, what are the reasons for not doing so? 4. How many students are
enrolled at Logos?

5. What is the largest class size?

6. How many teachers on your staff have credentials from a state accredited
educational institution? I ask this question because the Association of
Classical and Christian Accreditation, of which you are a founding director, states
in its literature:
"A: A degree in education is NOT required by most ACCS schools. Most colleges
and universities teach was is antithetical to a Biblical view of education,
so it would not be time well invested. It would require you to unlearn much of
what you learned in college to be able to teach in a classical and Christian
school. This is not to say that a person with such a degree would not be
hired, but such an education is not necessarily viewed as a plus".

7. What are the tuition costs at Logos School?

8. Are male and female teachers at Logos paid on the same salary scale?

I hope that you will take this opportunity to set the record straight (or at
least be on record) regarding Logos School. Your answers could help end
speculation and rumors regarding Logos School. I will be sharing a copy of this
letter and your response with Vision 2020 readers.

Sincerely,
Rosemary Huskey
