Dear Mr. Duffau,
I'll be happy to explain my proposal to those who defend or appear to
defend Wilson & Co. I know for a fact that there are many Christians, even
conservative evangelicals, who have criticized Wilson & Co., so when I read
a defense, I naturally assume that they are affiliated. If defenders who
are not Christ Church members want to take the risk of being identified
with them, then they do not need to heed my suggestion, and it was only that.
The fact that there are conservative evangelicals in town and out of town
were are just as critical as I am puts the lie to Roy Atwood's charge that
the critics hate evangelical Christians. As I have said on several
occasions, I was president of an academic conference last year at which 40%
of presenters were from evangelical colleges. (None of them objected my
presiding over the conference, because most of them are my friends.) Also,
my book "God, Reason, and the Evangelicals" is now at
www.class.uidaho.edu/ngier/gre.htm, and anyone can read about the praise I
give to those evangelical theologians that do not make the mistakes I
believe Atwood and Wilson make.
I'll have more on Atwood's "broken record" syndrome tomorrow.
