All Interested Voters,

Tim has referenced a flashpoint issue for rural residents.

Gravel pits can have horrible adverse impacts. Crushing and blasting operations
can be heard for miles. Dust becomes a problem. Heavy, sometimes arrogantly
reckless, large truck traffic will be increased. Blasting can affect the water
table -- some might lose wells. [This happened with a small gravel pit in our
neighborhood.]

Safety issues are of concern. Small children can fall into pits if they are not
correctly and carefully fenced, etc.

An issue to consider when voting for commissioners:

How sensitive will the candidates be of rural residents' concerns about uses
with large-scale adverse impacts on those who choose to live in the rural areas
in part for the peace and quiet it offers.

The decision of the current board to approve the gravel pit operation at issue
which affects many, many rural residents who have large investments in their
property does not bode well. Perhaps it is time for the voters to educate the
current commissioners. Unfortunately, the leader of the move to bless the
gravel pit at issue, Paul Kimmell, is not up for re-election.

  Donovan,
You write as if Stroschein is independent of the others just
because he happens to have a D by his name.
             Not so.
And not on one of the most important votes of the year.
If you followed the extended controversy over the gravel pit mine
permit not far from Potlatch, you'll know that there was an incredible amount
opposition to this operation from the affected residents. There were an
unprecedented number of hours devoted to public hearingson the topic--I
understand some of them lasted until the early morning hours--because so many
people wanted to speak out to urge the commissioners not to approve this
operation.
In other words it was clear that public sentiment was united against
it.
Yet Stroschein voted with the other two to approve this operation.

I wanted to know how many of you can follow this because people do not seem
to be doing anything about it.

Doug Wilson has a great deal of political power in Moscow and Latah County.
Much of that power comes from Paul Kimmel. Kimmel is Chair of the Board of
County Commissioners. This is the legislative, judicial, and executive
authority in the County. There are only three members of the board. Paul
Kimmel (R), Tom S. Stroschein (D), and Jack Nelson (R). Jack Nelson votes
whatever way Kimmel tells him to, giving him a 2-1 majority on the board.
Kimmel takes his orders from Doug Wilson on how to vote on the board. Thus
Doug Wilson controls the Latah Board of County Commissioners.

    Are you still following me?

If Jack Nelson were to be replaced by someone that voted with Stroschein,
Kimmel would be out of power, and thus so would Doug Wilson.

Linda Pike is running against Nelson in the race. If Pike is elected that
means Nelson is out of Office, Stroschein becomes the new Chair, Kimmel
loses power on the Board, and thus Wilson loses control over the County.

    Do you follow?

So if you really want to reduce the power and influence Doug Wilson is
    having I ask that you do your part;

Either send money to: Linda Pike Election Campaign, 1026 E. 3rd, Moscow, ID
    83843

Any amount helps: $25, $50, $100, or as little or as much as you can afford.

Or, If you don't have money, you can also donate time, or put a yard sign
out, write letters, make phone calls, etc. And at the very minimum you can
forward this email to family, friends and neighbors so they can help and
! vote to remove Doug Wilson from power.

Remove Wilson, Vote Pike, it is that simple.

    Respectfully,

    Donovan J Arnold
