We dumped cable years ago when they insisted that we pay all the money on three addresses while they investigated a billing problem (our old place, our new place and an address we'd never lived at and we were STILL waiting them to finish the investigation for the last time they screwed up their billing). We went with Direct TV and really liked it, but switched to Dish Network when Direct TV kept promising and promising and promising local channels and never came thru (tho I understand they FINALLY are offering local channels). We are fairly happy with the Dish, the only problems we've had has been hardware related and they've bent over backwards to get those problems resolved. 

We have the PVR and love it. We very rarely watch shows live anymore(the exceptions are morning and night time news) and it is wonderful being able to zip past those annoying commercials. Sometimes tho we are too fast with the remote and have locked up the PVR drive, but it is an easy fix by popping the card and resetting the machine (but if this is during a record it can get annoying). We have the older unit that only records 40 hours tho, the newer units record a lot more then that.

The only regret I have over switching from Direct TV to the Dish is we lost Oxygen channel and Trio (with the loss of Oxygen I don't get my Xena fix anymore :( sniff!)
