Lions Clubs provide tsunami disaster relief in South Asia

TROY, IDAHO December 30, 2004: Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF),
the charitable arm of the Lions Clubs International, is providing immediate
grant funding to victims of the South Asia tsunami disaster. According to
LCIF chair Dr. Tae-Sup Lee, nearly $200,000 of emergency grants has already
been disbursed to India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia. Funds are
being used to provide food, blankets, water, and other relief items. An
additional $320,000 has been pledged by Lions Clubs from around the world.

The Troy Lions are making a significant contribution to this effort through
LCIF, and encourage others in our local communities to provide relief
funding through LCIF. LCIF is an efficient and effective charity. All
donations go directly toward grants. Administrative costs, which are paid
from investments and not from contributions, average less than 11 percent,
among the best for non-profits.

Lions are working in the affected communities, as well as coordinating with
governments at national levels. In Sri Lanka, the Lions have formed a joint
commission with the government to expand the country's response to the
critical issues of shelter, water supplies and sanitation. In India, the
hardest hit areas in and around Chennai have come together to coordinate
the expenditure of $50,000 in LCIF funds for districts that cover the
coastline from Tamil Nadu north to Orissa.

Contributions may be made to: LCIF
300 W. 22nd St.
Oak Brook, IL 60523-8842

information may be obtained by calling LCIF at 630.571.5466, or by email at

help Lions of the world respond to the largest natural catastrophe in
modern history.
