UI STUDENTS AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS HONORS
Two students from the University of Idaho College of Natural Resources were
recognized by the Morris K. Udall Foundation this year.
This is the fourth consecutive year that students in the college earned the
national recognition. This year's UI winner is Adair Muth, a junior from
Missoula, Mont., who is studying natural resources ecology and conservation
biology. Muth won a Udall Scholarship last year as well.
Mackenzie Shardlow, a junior studying wildlife and natural resources
ecology and conservation biology, received an honorable mention. She is
from Post Falls.
The Morris K. Udall Foundation awards the prestigious $5,000 scholarships
to honor the late U.S. Congressman and his commitment to the natural
environment and conflict resolution. The foundation is part of the federal
government's executive branch.

23.
These students are nominated by the faculty and scored on their academics
and leadership involvements. Most of the awards provide scholarships as
well.

UI LIBRARY TAKES OVER BOOK DISTRIBUTION
Books published by the University of Idaho Library are available for
individual or bulk purchases through the library by mail or e-mail.
With the closing of the UI Press, the library resumed responsibility for
direct distribution of the books that it has published. Currently, seven
titles, all regional histories, are in print and for sale to individuals or
members of the book trade.
In addition, the library plans on publishing two new titles this year - one
dealing with the early exploration of the Palouse region and the second
studying the history of the Lolo Trail.
Titles and purchase information appear as a news item on the library Web
page at www.lib.uidaho.edu.

UI DEGREE PREPARES WOMAN ENGINEER
TO START ON-LINE THINK TANK FOR KIDS
Don't even hint that problems can't be solved to Tamara E. Cougar, a single
mom from Moscow and Coeur d'Alene who's graduating from UI with a
bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Can't get a degree with two small children in tow? Then bring them along to
the labs, let them build a fort under the desks and do their own
experiments. Don't want to confine oneself inside large bureaucracies? Then
start your own business and invent solutions that help people lead better
lives.
From 1995-99, Cougar "became a full-time mother of her Cougar cubs Alex
and Angela." She returned to school in 2000 to earn a mechanical
engineering degree and develop life-saving inventions through her own
research and development firm. Cougar Enterprises, LLC, based in her
hometown of Coeur d'Alene, will open in June. In addition to developing her
own designs and businesses, she is building an on line Think Tank for
bright youngsters.

UI GRADUATE AT 75 PROVES IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
A "senior senior" at the University of Idaho will graduate May 15 after a
60-year hiatus since she first began classes in math, secretarial business
and art in the 1940s.
An Idaho woman for all of her 75 years, Anita Mabbutt has lived in Moscow,
Kamiah, Burley, Boise and Shoshone at various times and spends her winters
in Quartzsite, Ariz. Her pastime -- and therapy -- for the past two years
has been finishing her bachelor's degree in general studies.
