(We have had some difficulty contacting the areas
Unions. If you, or someone you know, is invovled with
organized labor, please pass this announcement along
to them.)
LEWIS-CLARK STATE COLLEGE, THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO &
THE UNITED STEELWORKERS OF AMERICA announce the
Pacific Northwest Global Justice Tour.
Luis Adolfo Cardona, a Colombian Trade Unionist at
Coca-Cola, who narrowly escaped being murdered by an
anti-union death squad in his home country, is
accompanying USWA Associate Member representatives on
a two-month, seven-state tour to raise awareness of
the local and international effects of free trade.
Luis will be the featured speaker at the planned
events. Tara Widner, USWA Staff Representative and the
lead organizer of the March to Miami, will lead a
discussion through the maze of free trade deals and
show a documentary on the latest trade protest in
Miami at the Free Trade Area of the Americas meeting
last fall. In addition, Gary McKinney, USWA Associate
Member Coordinator, will speak about a new opportunity
for individuals to join the Steelworkers and
revolutionize the labor movement.
The Steelworkers' Associate Member program allows
students, activists, unemployed workers and those
without a collective bargaining agreement with their
employer to become members of a Labor Organization
that has been fighting for economic and social justice
for over 60 years.
