I apologize if I gave Melynda or anyone else the impression that Mr. Hill was not a nice man. I have talked to Hill a few times myself and have always found him to be a nice and courteous man. I think highly of all people that do community service. It is not a very thankful or rewarding job. Hill has served the Moscow Community and should be thanked for it.

My intent was to discuss how Hill has voted, not Jack Hill the person. Lots of people are nice and happy to help out. That doesn't mean that we should support them for office if they vote on policies that support agendas indifferent or contrary to our own. I certainly think that personality is an important concern when voting for a candidate. But I would hope that people take issues and the voting record of a candidate into consideration when casting a ballot above all else. Personality should be taken into account when deciding between two candidates you consider otherwise equal on issues and experience. To many people the Gym, the nudity ordinance, gay equality, water supply, and zoning are important considerations in supporting a candidate. At least that is what I have heard from people on Vision2020 and the community.

Thanks,

>I don't know if Jack Hill fought to exclude sexual orientation from Moscow's non-discrimination policy. I do know that when I called City Council members looking for a change in the swimming pool's policy on "family memberships" he was very helpful in putting me in touch with the right Parks and Rec people, and in helping frame changes in that policy so that it would be inclusive of more families in Moscow. He was not only courteous and helpful, but really went the extra mile, as did Parks and Rec.
