All,

I think Rose is probably right on this issue. We shouldn't ask the =
slaves what they thought about it. After all, those banjo playing, =
uneducated, simple-minded, jigging little pickaninnys have no idea =
whether they were treated well. After all, they never even went to =
school, let alone got a PhD in History. We ought to read what the people =
who wrote the history books said. If an ex-slave said that he was never =
beaten, he was obviously beaten so hard and so often that he can't =
remember.=20

On another note, I think that while it has been established that Doug =
Wilson is not a racist, we have seen evidences that some other people on =
this list could be labeled as such. Why is it that any references toward =
a white man from South are made with such disdain? That seems terribly =
racist, completely abandoning the mantra of diversity. I guess they have =
to be left out of the circle: "Our vigil for peace has no room for you, =
hillbilly! Go home, redneck!" Maybe we should throw bricks through their =
shop windows or something.

Deacon

  Dear Visionaries,
In the interest of unbiased information I offer the following link to =
an Internet Encyclopedia
  < http://www.eh.net/encyclopedia/wahl.slavery.us.php> The text =
provides an overview of the history of slavery in North America, the =
living conditions, legal issues, population, related statistical =
materials, and a lengthy bibliography. I urge anyone with an interest =
in the factual information on this topic to read it. =20
Of course, those who prefer the delusional images so lovingly painted =
by Margaret Mitchell of happy loyal Mammy, good old Uncle Joe, and =
assorted banjo playing, jigging little pickanninys, probably won't =
accept the data. They'll stick to the "true story" proffered by those =
noble Christians who belong or support the League of the South. =
