I should further add that on October 25 at 2:30 pm in City Council =
Chambers, there is a scheduled meeting of the vendors and, -- with =
respect to item #1 on the agenda -- other interested partie. The first =
topic of discussion per the notice to vendors is:
1.. Discussion regarding moving the market=20
    1.. Vendor input=20
2.. Input from factions of the community (DBA) who seem interested =
in moving the market and those who are not. =20
>From this discussion will come a final report to be presented to MAC =
commissioners, city staff and council members.

As far as I am aware, the Downtown Business Association (or Moscow =
Downtown Association, as I have also heard it called), is presenting a =
plan to move the market, in part, to Main Street. Not having seen the =
presentation yet, I cannot address the specifics of the proposal. I am =
unaware of any serious proposal involving the Fairgrounds, though I =
suppose that would be fair game as well. =20

  Bruce-
I am glad you are not supportive of moving the market.
The key point is that (according to the EDC shopper survey in 2002) =
the #1 reason people come downtown to shop is the Farmers Market (this =
of course is for summer months--the #1 retail destination downtown all =
year round is the Moscow Food Co-op).
Moving the market endangers downtown --I think it is as simple as =
that.

considering ideas to "tweak" the Market, but an idea that constitutes =
such a
radical change to the Market is going to have to marshal very strong
arguments for moving it to the Fairgrounds before I can support that
proposal.

Perhaps there could be an expansion of the Market, in terms of the time =
of
year, which might include special "November to March" Market sessions
(bi-weekly, monthly trials?) at the Fairgrounds for more arts and crafts
type sales, but a wholesale transplantation to the Fairgrounds of the
Farmer's Market as we know it is not something that makes sense to me.

Terry,
Thank you for your response and thoughts on Farmer's Market. The fair
grounds does have a historic function very similar to the Market. Your
   =20
idea
 =20
has some good merits to it and I will forward it to the FM committee
   =20
members
 =20
for further consideration and discussion.

Best regards,
Mark

Just a thought....but how about changing the venue of FM (Farmer's
   =20
Market)?
 =20
Move the market to the fair grounds. The fair grounds has plenty of space
   =20
in
 =20
a park like setting, lots of parking ( more to come), a ready made stage
area, bathrooms, a kitchen/grill and indoor facilities in case of
   =20
inclement
 =20
weather. Historically fair grounds were established to showcase
   =20
agricultural
 =20
products and marrying the market with the fairgrounds could be an ideal
solution. I have talked with some of the venders at the market and they
don't care where the market is located as long as they have space to
   =20
sell
 =20
their products and have customers. The fair grounds offers more space to
allow for more venders. The local bakeries and restaurants could set up
shop at the fairgrounds in the same way that Mikey's Gyro's does during
   =20
the
 =20
Fair. Saturday of the Fair would be the only time the fairgrounds would =
be
unavailable.
