[Vision2020] UI Diversity Protest/Walkout

Members of the Moscow Community,

I wanted to invite everyone to attend the Student/Faculty/Staff/Moscow 
Community walkout/protest against the UI administration's decision to cut 
the Office of Diversity and Human Rights.

When: Wednesday the 7th of May

Time: 11:00AM -1:30PM

Where: On the Administration Law, across from the Idaho Commons (center of 
Campus)

Who: Everyone and Anyone

Why: The University plans to make an ill fated decision to severely cut or 
eliminate the Office of the Diversity and Human Rights.

This slash will actually cost the University money because the $75,000 gain 
from the closing of the office will be lost by the international students 
that will no longer attend or start attending the University. The average 
international student pays about $10,000 a year in fees and tuition. A loss 
of only 8 students will eliminate all gains made by this move. Not counting 
all the progress that the University has made by this office.

What does the office do?

The office protects ALL students. If provides funds for student programs. It 
provides legal advise regarding rights of minorities, women, and 
multi-cultural students. It provides services for students. It acts as a 
link from the UI students to the UI President. It ensures that the American 
Disabilities Act is being followed. It deals with issues of discrimination 
and ensures the University does not violate the rights of students, faculty, 
and staff regarding human rights.

What if I can't attend?

Email UI acting President Brian Pitcher at bpitcher@uidaho.edu and tell him 
your view on the issue.
