In a little over two years, the Bush administration has managed to alienate
a huge part of the world. It has been cavalier in regard to the Kyoto
global warming protocol, the International Criminal Court, the Antiballistic
Missile Treaty, and more. Whatever goodwill the United States received in
the aftermath of September 11th is gone. Certainly we can defeat Iraq on
the battlefield, but that will not heal the damage done by the arrogance of
this administration in its international dealings. According to this
morning's New York Times, an administration official was quoted last month
as saying that after defeating Iraq the U.S. will deal with Iran, Syria, and
North Korea. Where does it end? And how much cooperation can George W.
Bush expect to receive from the world community in the light of how he and
his cohorts have treated the rest of the world? Does he even care?
